Kindergarten Line Crosses!

I always begin the year by learning about lines. It is an Element of Art, and I feel that all the other Elements stem from lines. For this project, I wanted the kindergartners to practice drawing the different types of lines first to get comfortable with them. I did this by talking about the lines and drawing them on the board. The students each had a dry erase board and marker that they would practice the lines with afterwards. We then played "I Spy" with the lines around the room. The next step was to draw the cross. I drew each line step by step on the board and the students drew along with me. It was a great way to introduce vertical and horizontal lines too! The last step that day was to outline their crosses with marker.

Next class, we reviewed the different types of lines on the board, and then the students added the lines to their crosses in a pattern with marker. After that, I showed them how to use crayon to color different colors and overlap and blend for the background. I emphasized not letting any white show through the crayon.

Biblical Integration:  Like there are many different types of lines, there are many different ways the world tells us we can get to Heaven. However, there is only one way and that is through Jesus Christ.
